Mandeh Archipelago

Now popularly dubbed the Raja Ampat of West Sumatra, the Mandeh archipelago is nestled in the Carocok Tarusan Bay and counts a number of islands, among which are the Tarajun, Setan Kecil, Sironjong Besar and Sironjong Kecil, Pulau Merak and the Cubadak Island. Covering an area of 70 hectares of underwater beauty, the islands are fringed with 389 hectares of mangrove forests and white beaches. Its undulating landscape of luxuriant hills and pristine bay area is studded with small islands, a perfect photogenic post card panorama! Only one hour’s drive from the city of Padang, the beaches of Mandeh slope to calm blue seas luring all to just jump in and swim in its cool waters. Today, tourists go to Mandeh to snorkel, scuba dive, go camping, do skydiving, banana boating and go fishing.

Air Manis Beach

Air Manis Beach is closely related to the legend of Malin Kundang in West Sumatra. Air Manis beach is a favorite tourist site for local and foreign tourists because it has low waves and beautiful views of Mount Padang. Beside playing in the water and swimming, visitors can rent a motorboat to visit Pisang Kecil and Pisang Besar Islands which are located some 500 meters from the beach. If you visit Air Manis beach, you should prepare extra clothes. You will be tempted to swim or walk to Pisang Kecil Island. On Pisang Kecil Island, visitors can sit under gazebos and enjoy sea and beach sceneries. If you visit Sikuai Island, you can try water sports such as surfing and diving. This island is famous for its white sand. Visitors can also rent a motor boat to visit Sikuai Island which is located across Pisang Island.

Bukittinggi

Many visitors come to Bukittinggi to visit the remarkable Ngarai Sianok Canyon where giant rock cliff faces, rugged trees which grow on top and the dramatic surrounding mountains make this canyon a spellbinding view. Bukittinggi has a refreshingly cool climate due to its elevation. Compared to other spots in Sumatra, Bukkitinggi only receives a handful of visitors that use the town as a base for nearby hikes or to take cultural tours to the Minangkabau highland. A center of attraction is the town’s clock-tower, topped with a horn- shaped roof and referred to by the people as Jam Gadang. It overlooks the market square and the city’s magnificent surroundings. Also worth visiting is the Museum which is a Rumah Gadang, a traditional extended family house built in the 19th century.

Padang Cuisine

From rendang to dendeng, Padang food is loved by many, and indeed is one of Indonesia's most popular local cuisines. It’s cuisine has one of the most famous recipe dish which by CNN Go calls as the world’s most favorite dish, which is the Rendang recipe. The cubed beef has been marinated and cooked in many kinds of ingredients, resulting in the soft unforgettable meat dish which tastes heavenly eaten with steaming hot rice. Padang food is famous for its rich taste of succulent coconut milk and spicy chili. Minang cuisine put much emphasis in three elements; gulai (curry), lado (chili pepper) and bareh (rice). No traditional Padang meal is complete without the three — spicy chili sauce; thick curry and perfect steamed rice.

Pagaruyung Palace

Pagaruyung Palace is a royal palace, or also called istana of the former Pagaruyung Kingdom. The palace is located in Tanjung Emassub district near Batusangkar town, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia. It was built in the traditional Minangkabau rumah gadang vernacular architectural style, but had a number of atypical elements including three floors structure and larger dimension compares to common rumah gadang. The palace has three floors with 72 pillars and the typical rumah gadang gonjong, with horn-like curved roof made from 26 tons of black ijuk aren palm fibers. The palace is also furnished with over 100 replicas of Minang antique furniture and artifacts, aiming the palace to be revived as Minangkabau cultural center as well as tourism attraction in West Sumatra.

Pandai Sikat

Pandai Sikat or Clever Craftsmen is famous for songket (silver- or gold-threaded cloth) weaving and carving building decorations out of wood. Here, we can find any silver or gold threaded cloth that manualy been made by the local people that already skilfull since the ancient time of Padang ancestores. The village is 13km south of Bukittinggi. The famous weaving village Pandai Sikat is located between Gunung Singgalang and Gunung Marapi in the far south of the Agam Valley.
